4WD History

Quite a while ago, I saw a storage system using shelves in one of my mates 4wds, so I asked if I could copy his idea, to which he was happy for me to do.

What I have done is to use steel in my racking rather than MDF, because it is water resistant & shock resistant. Besides, my metal working skills are far better than my wood working skills anyway

How this works is this.

On the top section I the following

  • The pillows go against the cargo barrier

  • Then I put in the tent, tarps & carpet.

  • Air Mattress

  • I also put the folding chairs & table.

  • This is tied in place with octopus straps so nothing falls out on a trip

On the middle shelf goes 6 plastic containers. 2 are recovery gear & tools, the others are as follows;

  • Gas & lighting stuff

  • non perishable food

  • cooking gear & utensils

  • Personal items (soap etc)

In the bottom section goes the following

  • Porta Loo

  • 2 flat type clothes boxes (1 for each of us)

  • 12 poles (for tarp)

  • rope & peg bag

  • Primus 3 burner cooker

  • Medium eski & 2l drinking water container

  • Thermos

  • cups

On the left (passenger) side goes the following

  • 2 Sleeping Bags

  • Stove Stand

  • Axe

  • Shoes

  • Red Fire Extinguisher

On the right (Driver) Side goes the following

  • 22 l water container with hose & tap

  • 1 bottle motor oil

  • 2 small gas bottles

  • 1 chainsaw

  • 1 Yellow Fire Extinguisher (just in case)

On the Drivers Back Door I have made a table which houses plates, cutlery, teabags, sugar etc.
